Symmetry-Free, p-Robust Equilibrated Error Indication for the hp-Version of the FEM in Nearly Incompressible Linear Elasticity

چکیده
We consider the extension of the p-robust equilibrated error estimator due to Braess, Pillwein and Schöberl to linear elasticity. We derive a formulation where the local mixed auxiliary problems do not require symmetry of the stresses. The resulting error estimator is p-robust, and the reliability estimate is also robust in the incompressible limit if quadratics are included in the approximation space. Extensions to other systems of linear second-order partial differential equations are discussed. Numerical simulations show only moderate deterioration of the effectivity index for a Poisson ratio close to 1 2 . 2010 Mathematical subject classification: 65N15; 65N30; 65N50; 74B05; 74G15.

On the Selection of a Locking-free hp Element for Elasticity Problems
We consider the design of robust elements that can be used in hp codes for elasticity problems. Our goal is to identify an element that is free of locking for the case of a nearly incompressible material, both in terms of the h version and the p version. By this we mean that the displacements as well as the stresses should converge optimally. For the standard nite element method, locking is obs...
متن کاملLocking-free adaptive discontinuous Galerkin FEM for linear elasticity problems
An adaptive discontinuous Galerkin finite element method for linear elasticity problems is presented. We develop an a posteriori error estimate and prove its robustness with respect to nearly incompressible materials (absence of volume locking). Furthermore, we present some numerical experiments which illustrate the performance of the scheme on adaptively refined meshes.
متن کاملNonlinear analytical solution of nearly incompressible hyperelastic cylinder with variable thickness under non-uniform pressure by perturbation technique
In this paper, nonlinear analytical solution of pressurized thick cylindrical shells with variable thickness made of hyperelastic materials is presented. The governing equilibrium equations for the cylindrical shell with variable thickness under non-uniform internal pressure are derived based on first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT). The shell is assumed to be made of isotropic and homoge...
متن کاملAdaptive hp-FEM for the Contact Problem with Tresca Friction in Linear Elasticity: The Primal-dual Formulation and a Posteriori Error Estimation
We present an a priori analysis of the hp-version of the finite element method for the primal-dual formulation of frictional contact in linear elasticity. We employ a novel hp-mortar projection operator, which is uniformly stable in the mesh width and grows slowly in the polynomial degree. We derive an hp-FEM residual error indicator, develop an hp-adaptive strategy that is based on testing for...
متن کاملMixed Methods for Elastodynamics with Weak Symmetry
We analyze the application to elastodynamic problems of mixed finite element methods for elasticity with weakly imposed symmetry of stress. Our approach leads to a semidiscrete method which consists of a system of ordinary differential equations without algebraic constraints. Our error analysis, which is based on a new elliptic projection operator, applies to several mixed finite element spaces...
